UK supermarket workers to be exempted from self-isolation requirement?

As the Delta variant of Covid-19 spreads across the UK, supermarkets are struggling to keep shelves fully stocked. Retail industry leaders warn of the growing havoc wreaked by the “pingdemic”, which continues to force thousands of workers to self-isolate. With shops in some areas suffering shortages and firms across a range of sectors hit by absences, the UK government is being urged to include supermarket staff, lorry drivers and other frontline workers on a list of those exempted from self-isolation rules. Meanwhile, the British army is said to be on stand-by to make up for the shortfall of lorry drivers and ensure the country’s food supply.
