The International Pepper Congress to take place in May in Almería
Almería is more than just a province that produces and exports vegetables to the rest of the world. Almería refers to a brand associated with the excellent quality of its products, which flourish in the shelter of plastic and advance every day in their research and development. In this context and within the framework of the World Vegetable Congress, the World Pepper Congress (International Pepper Congress – WPC) will take place in the town of Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar, on May 9, 10 and 11.
This event will bring together world-class experts in the cultivation of peppers at the ‘Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos Cámara de Almería’ in Aguadulce to share knowledge and the latest research on this fruit, as well as its future prospects in the different areas of production, from varietal selection, to genetic structure, to the harvesting process.
WPC picks up the baton from the last international meeting held in the province (Níjar) by the World Vegetable Congress, when tomato production was the protagonist of the conference. This year’s event focusing on pepper will represent a key meeting for experts, technicians, exporters and producers of fruit and vegetables in Europe.
The pepper has progressively positioned itself as the leader of the Almeria countryside, overtaking the tomato in terms of production area. This is the main reason why the World Vegetable Congress decided to hold the international pepper congress in Aguadulce, in order to share the latest trends in this crop with producers.
The Scientific Committee of the World Pepper Congress has designed 3 days of scientific-technical conferences around the cultivation of pepper, which will address topics such as ‘Varietal and genetic selection’, ‘Plant nutrition and fertigation’ and ‘Pests and diseases’. On May 9, 10 and 11, the WPC conference days will run from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Each session will consist of several presentations, lasting approximately twenty minutes. At the end of each intervention, there will be an open question time and a round table to delve into the cooking of this fruit.
By bringing together leading specialists in pepper production, the World Pepper Congress offers a unique opportunity for those looking to broaden their expertise in this specific area, while at the same time encouraging the exchange of knowledge and experiences with other professionals in the sector. On the other hand, in order to promote these exchanges on the cultivation of one of the most produced vegetables in the world, WPC will have a networking room with free access for congress participants. A planned space for work or business meetings.
Entrance to the World Pepper Congress will be free for all those who wish to participate, although places are limited and require registration.
