Spanish retail urges reconciling of sustainability and economic growth
The 5th Sustainable Development Congress hosted by Aecoc and FIAB brought together nearly 200 attendees who valued the commitment of companies to comply with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, even in the current context of inflation and growth of production costs.
At the opening of the congress, the general director of FIAB, Mauricio García de Quevedo, said that sustainable development requires taking environmental concerns into consideration along with economic development. The director of FIAB, referring to the impact of sustainability laws approved in the past year, such as the tax on plastic, said: “We all need to work together through public-private collaboration, respecting market unity and legal certainty, and adapting the measures to the times of the rest of Europe and its circumstances. Forcing additional costs in a period of war with skyrocketing prices for energy and raw materials is not the most appropriate if we want to continue contributing wealth to the Spanish market”.
