Spaniards prefer Alcampo and Lidl fresh produce
Lidl is chosen for its good general perception of quality and price, as well as for its offering at “consistently” low prices, as well as the best promotions, reports newspaper Cinco Días. Consum obtained the best rating for the quality of its fresh goods: fruits and vegetables (67%) and meat and fish (71%). It also excelled in terms of the friendliness of its staff, with a score of 100%, as well as in ease of transit through stores, with a score of 99%.
Mercadona is also ranked highly for its product range, the quality of its stores. It also has the best own brand (91 points out of 100), followed by Lidl (70 points). Mercadona also leads the ranking in terms of its supply of ready-to-eat foods, with 43%, a section where most of the Spanish brands fail.
The Bain & Company study also highlights that Spanish consumers spend the highest percentage of their monthly income on food purchases (10%), with an average of €383 per month per household. Spending in France is €395, but the percentage of income is lower, 9%, the same as in Italy. The European average is €370 and 8% of monthly income.
