Smaller melon and watermelon crops this year in Spain
Peris starts open-air production
The first melons of the campaign from Murcia come from fields with partially sandy soil. Crop controls are constant and sustainable processes are employed. Irrigation, for example, is by drip method using water obtained from ponds on the firm’s land. Despite the recent rains, water use is minimised. At the beginning of August, Peris will start harvesting the Piel de Sapo melon grown in Castilla-La Mancha, another area whose climate is ideal for growing this delicious fruit. As the weather there has not been so adverse, at least so far, everything is on track for a perfect harvest.
Melons El Abuelo embarks on second phase of “Beginnings” campaign
Melones El Abuelo launches the second phase of its “Beginnings” campaign. This new stage will focus on the origins and technological transformation of agriculture in the Murcia region. Although technology has changed the production and cultivation processes, the firm has managed to maintain the taste of yesteryear. After a successful first phase of the campaign, which focused on the origins of melon cultivation in Almería, a region where greenhouse production dominates, Melons El Abuelo is now delving into Murcia’s agricultural history. The “Beginnings” campaign seeks to highlight the importance of preserving agricultural traditions and adapting to technological advances to remain competitive in today’s market.
