Smaller calibres expected for Catalan stone fruit crop

After a 2022 campaign that ended negatively for Catalonia, due to heavy frosts, this year should see a recovery in volume (around 50,000 tons), but with smaller sizes due to the lack of water and the extreme heat that occurred after flowering. The beginning of June saw some much-needed rain, albeit with milder than normal temperatures. So, the weather over the coming weeks will be decisive in how the campaign develops.
May saw higher demand due to lower supplies from competing countries. But as more fruit enters in the market in the coming weeks, competition will intensify. Labour shortages are another issue which the sector is currently tackling.
