Reefers for perishable products are the future of logistics
For three days, from 10 to 12 October 2023, Genoa was the epicenter of the world of reefer logistics during the Cool Logistics International Conference, which held its annual session in the Ligurian capital. “Reefer and perishable products”, said Silvio Ferrando, marketing manager of the Port Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea (Ports of Genoa) “represent a market niche that has always offered interesting margins in terms of added value. Now the major shipping companies have rediscovered its importance. This is why we aim to establish this category as one of the future assets of our business, also by virtue of the 10,000 plugs that make our ports one of the largest hubs for reefers in the Mediterranean. For this reason, we continue to invest in services and structures, not only in Italy but also beyond the Alps towards Central Europe, as in the case of the recently opened railway connections towards Basel and Stuttgart. At Ports of Genoa, we are investing around €3 billion to improve maritime and land accessibility to our ports and we are focusing on long-range traffic and rail, which in some markets are a winning formula in terms of costs and sustainability”.
