Pakistan’s fruit and vegetables exports in Q3 shot up 49.3% and 19.2% respectively from last year. Around 131,000 tons of fruits worth US$101.7 million were exported between July and September 2018, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. As for vegetables, 133,000 tons worth US$ 32.8 million were exported, compared with 81,000 tons worth US$ 27.6 million in the same period of 2017.
Pakistan is now looking towards the Chinese markets as a potential destination for its fruits and vegetables. Using BRI roads and ports infrastructure, Pakistan’s greater access to new markets could enable food exports to rise to $2.5 billion within five years.
