New Zealand expects bumper 2022 kiwifruit crop

As New Zealand’s kiwifruit harvest gets underway, there are forecasts of another record-breaking year that might surpass last year’s record of over 177 million trays (each with around 30 pieces).
Zespri’s new RubyRed variety is the earliest to be picked, followed by the Gold and Green varieties. The harvest traditionally peaks in mid-April and runs until June. However, the success of the season might be jeopardised by surges in Covid-19 infection rates and labour shortages.
