Modi takes over as leading Australian club apple export variety
Early club variety, Modi, makes a splash in its first export campaign. Licensed by Freshmax Australia, the Italian club variety accounted for 6% of Australia’s total apple exports, with expanded production expected for 2019. The brand performed very well both domestically and abroad. After Pink Lady, Modi was the largest proprietary export variety from Australia, with 300 tons shipped overseas. One reason for this success is Freshmax’s global network, through its subsidiary Valleyfresh.
“Our clients are always keen to trial new products as our long-standing relationships have garnered significant deference and trust. They also know that if they back us then we will back them,” said Valleyfresh export manager Saxon Call.
Over 35,000 units were shipped to a leading Asian supermarket chain, where feedback on fruit quality was excellent and demand was consistent. This bodes well for the expanded 2019 campaign, for which contracts are already in place.
