Modì International Project expands
The Modi International Project is now growing with the official entrance of the Dole Chile Group, which has joined the other licensees from Europe, Turkey, Serbia, Russia, Uruguay, Australia and the United States, working together to extend the Modi market around the world.
The Modi apple – which has a unique, modern taste and is eco-friendly – was conceived and developed by CIV (Consorzio Italiano Vivaisti), a consortium active worldwide in experimental and fruit breeding programs and engaged in selecting of varieties with low environmental impact.
The farming plan aims to reach about 1,000 ha worldwide in the next few years – with roughly 80% located in the Northern Hemisphere – and global production of the variety reaching about 30.000 tons, thus achieving a favourable balance between supply and demand for Modi apples.
The most important aim of the project consists of promoting coordinated strategies on farming processes, the development of marketing campaigns at a global level, and promoting a cooperative approach between producers and marketers, so they can better work together in the improvement of Modi.
All the Modi Partners, inspired by innovation and passion for their work, shared values, experience, technical skills and brand strategies during the annual Modi Marketing Meeting, held at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, and at the Modi Technical Meeting, which was held for the first time in Ferrara, northern Italy, over May 26-27.
“We will fully support the development of the environmentally sustainable Modi International Project offering the highest quality possible so as to satisfy every member in the supply chain, from producer to end user at an international level,” said Modi Europa Consortium chairman Pier Filippo Tagliani, who has been appointed by CIV to coordinate the partners in this first phase of the international project.
