Low supplies of German apples lead to high prices

The high prices currently charged for German apples are justified by the low stocks available. The slightly lower sales in December did little to redress the supply gap, which still stands at 45% of the levels of previous years. The area which is least affected is the Lower Elbe and looks set to take advantage of the low stocks in the south. The Lake Constance region could feasibly exhaust all of its stocks by the end of March. The pattern is similar in the Netherlands, while the outlook for the Gala apples of the Sud Tirol look a little brighter.
