La Unión increases turnover by 8.4% in 2022
Just a few months after its 30th anniversary, La Unión, a benchmark company in the marketing of fruits and vegetables from Almeria, has published its annual accounts for 2022, presenting growth of 8.4% compared to the previous year.
In a year marked by uncertainty, inflation, the disproportionate increase in energy and transport costs (with several strikes) and the instability that the outbreak of the war in Ukraine has generated in all the European markets where the company currently operates , La Unión has been able to maintain its status as a leading company, doubling its revenues from the previous year.
The data acquires more importance given that the fruit and vegetable market in Spain has fallen by 3.5% in value and 9.5% in volume, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture. La Unión, on the other hand, shows very different data: it has grown in value by 6.1% and in volume by 14.5%, so the difference with respect to the market is more than nine points in value and 24% by volume.
Another of the challenges that had to be overcome during 2022 was the increase in costs associated with the rises in the minimum wage decreed by the government which led to an increase of more than €1 million in salary costs that were not contemplated at the beginning of the campaign. The company also has 3,500 farmers linked to its project and generates indirect employment in the province that benefits 35,000 people.
2022 was also a year of consolidation for the company which continued with its growth strategy in different European markets where it has not had a significant presence to date, with leading distribution companies in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Italy becoming new customers this past year, joining the already consolidated markets of central Europe and Spain.
Diversification, the launch of new brands and products of differentiated quality as well as innovation as a hallmark and commitment to food safety are other key elements that continue to be essential for the current management of the company. Similarly, an enormous effort has been made during the past year to transform, modernise and adapt all the company’s management systems and management teams to continue preparing for the coming years.
