Kshirsagar Cold Storage (India), delivers products in prime condition
Kshirsagar Cold Storage (KCS) is an Indian company that handles the distribution and export of fresh fruit and vegetables.
“India ranks second in the production of fruits and vegetables, accounting for some 10-15% of total global production; however, nearly a third of our horticultural produce, especially fruits and vegetables, are wasted on account of poor storage facilities,” said Vijay Kshirsagar, the company’s owner. “Cold storages play a vital role in improving value addition opportunities and creating a surplus food for agro-food products. At KCS, we believe that our customer should receive the product in its prime condition, hence, we take various steps to grade and cool the fruit and vegetables to ensure that the product gives the customer the feeling of having just been picked from the garden.”
The main products exported by KCS are onions (5,000 tons per year), grapes (3,000 tons – mainly Thompson seedless variety), and pomegranates (1,000 tons). These fruit and vegetables are shipped to Europe, Russia, South-East Asia, and China.
“We participate in all the international fairs of the sector; it gives us the opportunity to get in touch with our clients and to make new business contacts,” said Kshirsagar. Besides exports, the company distributes local and imported produce, such as apples, melons, kiwis, mangoes, lemons, potatoes, asparagus, okra, aubergine, bell pepper, dry fruits and nuts.
