India looks forward to better-quality apple and pear crop

India’s 2021/22 apple and pear production is set to remain flat, at 2.3 million tons and 310,000 tons, respectively, according to FAS New Delhi. Improved fruit quality is expected due to favourable weather conditions, normalised labour availability, and a general supply chain recovery. Grape production is expected to increase by 26% to 2.9 million tons, with better fruit condition. Apple, pear, and grape imports are expected to rise by 19%, 10%, 2% respectively, as domestic production remains insufficient to meet demand. Indian grape exports are forecast at 280,000 tons, 5% above last season.
