Ifored introduces red pulp apples
These new red-fleshed apple varieties caused a real furore at Fruit Attraction, and now they are ready for market. The project is run by the IFORED organization founded in 2012, grouping together 14 of the biggest apple producers from 5 continents, who joined forces to develop a selection of red pulp apples with excellent flavour and a unique appearance. Three red-flesh varieties were chosen for the initial launch: one with yellow peel, another orangey and a third red-skinned. Since spring 2016, pre-commercial orchards have been planted in Europe; the first trials are scheduled for autumn 2017 and commercial planting as of 2018. “We’re getting excellent results with natural improvement techniques. The varieties we are presenting today have great potential thanks to the extraordinary flavour and the range of skin colouring,” said Bruno Essner, CEO of IFORED.
