Fit For Market – Fit For Fruit Attraction!

Empowering EU and African companies to fully play their role in the emergence of new sustainable models in the international fruit and vegetable industry

COLEACP will participate in Fruit Attraction 2019 to meet with exporters from sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean, as well as European importers who source fruit and vegetables from these regions. The event will offer opportunities for first-hand updates on the various activities under way to promote sustainable trade between the two continents through COLEACP’s Fit For Market programme.

Fit For Market assists smallholders, farmer groups and MSMEs to access international and domestic horticultural markets by complying with market and sanitary/phytosanitary (SPS) requirements. At the programme’s core is sustainable intensification – increasing production while minimising negative impacts on the climate, ecosystems and the productive environment.

COLEACP’s mission is to develop the agrifood trade (especially the fruit and vegetable sector) in an inclusive and sustainable way, primarily in the ACP countries and between them and the European Union. COLEACP is organised into seven services, including technical assistance, with the activities of each service financed through cooperation programmes like Fit For Market. Its technical assistance activities include working alongside companies, service providers and Competent Authorities, individually or collectively, to reinforce their technical capacities. This might include implementing a quality or traceability system, obtaining certification, achieving accreditation, developing self-assessment systems, facilitating access to financing, or developing business plans and manuals for procedures and inspections.
