Fall in New Zealand’s kiwifruit exports
Mon 20/02/2023 by Richard Wilkinson
New Zealand’s prized kiwifruit suffered a disappointing 2022 in terms of exports. Figure from Stats NZ show that shipments of the fruit were down 5.1% year-on-year in value, with green kiwifruit sales plummeting by 24% in value to NZ$707.5m. Exports of gold kiwifruit were up by over 4% year-on-year to NZ$1.93bn. Avocado exports also fell sharply (-28%) in 2022. Partly offsetting these falls was a rise in exports of apples (+6.6%) and cherries.
Overall, the value of New Zealand’s fresh fruit exports in 2022 fell by US$58m compared to the previous year.
