EU agricultural production climbed 6.2% in 2017
The European Union registered a 6.2% increase in the value of its agricultural production in 2017 compared with the previous year. According to Eurostat, the total value in 2017 was €432.6 billion. Around 56% of this value was spent on intermediate consumption (input goods and services), meaning that gross value added was 44% (€188.5 billion). France (17%) reported the highest total agricultural output among the Member States, with €72.6 billion, followed by Germany (13%), with €56.2 billion, Italy (13%), with €55.1 billion, Spain (12%), with €50.6 billion, the UK (7%), with €31.8 billion, the Netherlands (7%), with €28.9 billion, Poland (6%), €24.9 billion, or 6%, and Romania (4%), with €17.5 billion. The greatest increase in agricultural output was recorded in Estonia (+18.2%), followed by Ireland (+13.6%), Romania (+13.2%), the UK (+12.6%) and Poland (+11.1%). Output increased in 8.6% in Germany, 4.5% in Spain, 3.2% in France and 2.2% in Italy. The greatest falls were recorded in Slovenia (-4.7%) and Malta (-3.1%).
