Eatable packaging film made of seaweeds is created by Russian and Indian scientists
“The conception of eatable film is not new, it has been produced of various materials, but all of them are either expensive or allergic,” explains Rammokhan Aluru, scientist of organic synthesis laboratory of UrFU. “We have chosen a completly different approach, creating the innovative film made of seaweeds.» Thanks to the antioxidant components, the food wrapped in the film has longer shelf life. What’s more, the producer does not need any special equipment to manufacture the film. “Seaweeds is a renewable source, supplied by ocean, therefore the production will cost cheap,” explains Grigoiy Zyrianov, professor of organic and bio molecular chemistry Chair of UrFU.
The film was created as the result of research of the scientists from Indian Tirupati Universities, UrFU and the Institute of organic synthesis (Russia).
