Citromax Group opens doors to China for Argentine lemon
Following its opening in 2017, the US now receives 18% of shipments, while Asia receives 5%, thanks to the opening of China in 2020.
In 2020, the Citromax Group exported 36% more than in the previous season (19,000 tons of fresh lemons), but slightly lower volumes are expected for the 2021 campaign. On the one hand, phytosanitary restrictions limited entry to Europe, which, under normal conditions, would receive 40% of shipments. On top of this, union disputes and rains in March and April delayed the campaign. In light of this, the plan is to grow in markets such as the United States and China, where Citromax will export 4,000 tons and 1,000 tons of fresh lemon, respectively.
Citromax was the first Argentine exporter to send fresh lemons to China, after its opening in mid-2020.
“Although it was only 105 tons, it was a historic step for the country and for our company,” said Bernabe Padilla, fresh fruit commercial manager. “The fruit shipped in 2020 arrived in China in excellent condition, despite the cold treatment process that was carried out.” Marketed under the Citromax and Vivian brands, the firm’s main sales channels are cafes, shops, restaurants, retail, online sales and wholesalers. Citromax also has an office in Shanghai to market its industrial products and, from now on, its fresh citrus.
