Chile’s avocado exports up by 25%

Chilean producers expect a bumper avocado crop in 2023/24, due to favourable climatic conditions and abundant rainfall in the winter. FAS/Santiago estimates that avocado production will total 200,000 tons, a 21.2% rise from 2022/23. Area planted will total 32,710 hectares, up 1%. Exports for the coming season are estimated at 110,000 tons, which is 24.4% above the level of the previous marketing year due to the higher production volume. Imports will decrease by 14.1% to 65,000 tons to cover for total domestic consumption which will reach 155,000 tons.
