Calls for urgent overhaul of Vietnam’s agri logistics
Vietnam has great potential as a fresh fruit exporter, but this requires radical investment to establish a specialised logistics and transportation system to preserve the quality of the produce while facilitating the development of domestic agriculture.
Nguyễn Thanh Bình, chair of the Vietnam Fruit Association (VINAFRUIT), said that the fruit and vegetable sector is grappling with numerous challenges related to exporting, particularly to distant markets with rigorous standards. Presently, the infrastructure designed to facilitate this commodity is lacking, contributing to substantial post-harvest losses, estimated to be around 30-35 per cent.
Vietnamese exporters of fruits and vegetables find it particularly challenging to transport various types of produce to markets like the US States and Europe as inefficient logistics have deterred businesses from exporting certain types of fruit.
