Bonafrú joins UNICA
UNICA has expanded its product catalogue by adding berries for the first time, following the incorporation of Bonafrú (Cooperativa Hortofrutícola de Bonares), dedicated to the production and marketing of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, based in the town of Bonares (Huelva).
Bonafrú currently has 60 active members and farms in the Huelva towns of Bonares, Niebla, Moguer, Lucena del Puerto and San Juan del Puerto, as well as Rociana del Condado, Almonte, Lepe and Villablanca. In the 2020/21 campaign, Bonafrú’s production reached 4.5 million kilos, cultivated on 350 hectares, and it had a turnover of €19 million. At times of greatest productive activity, the cooperative from Huelva generates 2,500 jobs. Its main destination markets include Germany, as well as the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. To a lesser extent, it also exports to France and Portugal.
President of Bonafrú, Lucas Domínguez, considers it “a privilege” to join UNICA “as its first berry company. We have a strong commitment on both sides to complement the product offering, take advantage of synergies and have access to new customers. Being part of a group of this size will allow us to improve the profitability of our partners. We hope that it will be a long-lasting relationship and that this operation will help us to unite Huelva’s berry sector”.
