BIOFRUITNET: Boosting Innovation in ORGANIC FRUIT production through stronger networks
This project is focusing on organic fruit growing, specifically on pome, stone and citrus fruits. Its aim is to strengthen the competitiveness of European organic fruit production by:
- Collecting and synthesizing existing practical and scientific knowledge on organic fruit-growing to distribute it widely among the EU countries through easy formats like e-learning, podcasts, videos, practice abstracts, and short articles.
- Strengthening the established networks in organic fruit growing and creating new links between them to create strong networks of organic fruit producers and stakeholders with a good flow of information.
On the BIOFRUITNET website under the resources section, the user can have access to all the communication materials created to provide general information on the project. The results obtained from the different surveys on needs, gaps and practices done to producers and advisors of the different fruit groups are also available on the website apart from the collection of technical knowledge articles, bibliographic references, etc.
In addition, up to 100 practice abstracts will be available on the BIOFRUITNET website and the Organic Farm Knowledge website, ready to be used by organic fruit growers, so that they can improve their orchard management through new techniques and innovative knowledge.
The work produced by the project has also led to the production of diverse scientific publication and communications. The scientific publication compiles and studies the results from the research on the European organic fruit production networks. The communications are the result of surveys carried out among producers and advisors, and gather the most relevant information obtained from these surveys in relation to the research needs in organic stone fruit production and the technical knowledge needs in organic fruit production in Europe.
The user can also access to the audiovisual content through the website and its youtube channel; several short videos which explain in a simple way how to apply specific techniques to improve certain aspects of organic fruit crop management, pest management, etc. All the content is organised by fruit groups to facilitate access and consultation for those interested.
The BIOFRUITNET project will soon launch a series of training courses that will compile all the previous knowledge and make it available to students or professionals who want to deepen their knowledge on the subject. Moreover, a list of podcasts in which experts in the field will address relevant crop management issues will be available also soon. To conclude, the 3rd online seminar is planned for 8th November, which, as in previous editions, will deal with topics of interest to the organic fruit production sector.
To keep up to date with the available tools and events of the project, we recommend to visit the BIOFRUITNET website, subscribe to the newsletter and follow their social networks (Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter).
