With the newly signed protocols, Australian peaches have begun arriving in China via airfreight under. The new agreement allows Australian producers of stonefruit and grapes to enter Mainland China. By air, Australian fruit can arrive in China within one day. Australian exporter Valleyfresh is working with Orsida Fresh, a grower in Cobram, Victoria, to ship fruit to China. Valleyfresh is currently focusing on peaches and nectarines, but intends to begin exporting plums in the months ahead.
“With treatment, the protocol does cost a little bit more, but direct market access to China is what Australians have wanted and really needed,” said Valleyfresh Exports manager Saxon Call.
