The first edition of the Digital Agrifood Summit Portugal will take place from January 20 to 23, 2021. The Digital Agrifood Summit Portugal is organised with the support of the Secretariat of State for Internationalisation and the Ministry of Agriculture of Portugal, the AICEP (Aicep Portugal Global-Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency) and FIPA (Federation of Portuguese Agro-Food Industries).

“There are mobility restrictions due to the current situation, but the export drive of our companies shouldn’t be affected by this. With this event, we want to take advantage of the opportunities given to us by digital environments and continue to build relationships of trust with international buyers,” said Amândio Santos, president of PortugalFoods and head of the Portuguese Agro-food Cluster.

The event will showcase the products of PortugalFoods, Inovcluster, Agrocluster do Ribatejo and Portugal Fresh, which together form the Portuguese Agrofood Cluster that brings together all the quality food supply intended for export.

Portugal is a major global exporter of quality food. Fruits and vegetables, fish, preserves, meats, oils, confectionery and other quality products now reach 185 international markets. With an export value of 6.5 billion in 2019 and an excellent forecast for 2020, Portugal’s agri-food sector is committed to maintaining the strong growth rate achieved over the last decade, having managed to account for more than 10% of all Portuguese exports.

“Our main destinations continue to be the European Union and countries like Brazil and Angola, with whom we have a historical relationship. However, we are seeing very interesting growth in countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, the US, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Algeria and Morocco. Our objective with this first international meeting is to continue consolidating our position in all of them, whether they are traditional destinations or new markets,” said Santos.

The digital event is presented as a global meeting that will feature a virtual showroom of quality products, on a platform in which exhibiting Portuguese companies will hold business meetings with buyers from more than twenty countries around the world. There will also be thematic workshops and a space dedicated to current trends. All this is intended to bring the unique properties of Portuguese foods closer to international buyers.
