US consumers warned not to eat Romaine Lettuce following E.Coli outbreak

For the second time this year, the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued an announcement warning the public not to eat Romaine lettuce. The warning comes after an E. coli outbreak that has so far struck down 32 people in eleven different states. The first outbreak linked to Romaine lettuce hospitalised over 190 people, killing five. The CDC advised the public to dispose of any Romaine lettuce they may already have purchased. They also told restaurants not to serve it, stores not to sell it, and people not to buy it, no matter where or when the lettuce was grown, whether it is chopped, whole head or part of a mix. California (10) and Michigan (7) have reported the highest number of cases. The FDA reports that as yet no common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand of Romaine lettuce has been identified.
