Slump in Peru’s mango output

This is the finding of ProMango, the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers, which projects a 70-80% fall from the previous season. The warm winter temperatures due to the El Niño phenomenon have caused very low levels of flowering, drastically reducing production volumes.

“The impact on volumes is serious. There are no problems with the quality of the fruit, and the sizes are normal and similar to those of previous campaigns; the main problem is logistics. With such small quantities of fruit on each farm. According to Gamarra, the harvest began in the first week of October and was not delayed, but the volumes shipped to date have been minimal. In the previous season (2022-23, from October to April), Peru exported 249,314 tons of fresh mangoes, which represented an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous year. The main export destinations were Europe (132,731 tons) and the USA (92,632 tons), together constituting 90% of the total exported volume.
