Spanish blueberry prices above last year’s due to lower production

Spain’s blueberry campaign began somewhat earlier this year. By February and March, more kilos were obtained than in the same months of 2017. However, when the main months of the campaign arrived, the volumes of production to be sold were below the 2017 levels, especially in May, when 42% of the total sales are concentrated. In 2018, approximately 9% less blueberry has been marketed than last year. In return, better prices have been obtained in the months of strong production. In April and May, prices were at better levels than last year, due to the much lower volumes of supply. In June, the average price has also remained above the price of the same month of 2017, while production has been higher.
