Germany, asparagus supply volume decreased

With the end of Germany’s asparagus season fast approaching, the volumes on offer have decreased significantly, leading to a slowdown in sales. Previously, there had been an excess of supply, with too many batches flowing too frequently leading to a glut on the market. Having started the season in Week 14 at a good price level (€1,545 per 100 kg), prices subsequently came under severe pressure and by Week 23 had plunged to their lowest level for the period in the last five years. Nevertheless, some parts of the market managed to thrive where efficient communication was taking place between producers, suppliers and retailers. Sales of green asparagus performed marginally better than sales of white asparagus.
