Moroccan citrus production boosted by improved weather and access to US market

Morocco’s citrus production in MY 2017/18 recovered from an early season drought. With improved weather conditions, the country’s mandarin forecast rose from 1 million tons to 1.2 million tons, while exports climbed from 420,000 tons to 520,000 tons. Meanwhile, orange production estimates increased from 0.9 million tons to 1 million tons, with exports rising from 100,000 tons to 160,000 tons. No changes were recorded for the lemons/limes. Exports were boosted by the news that the Berkane region had managed to regain market access to the US. Additionally, the Moroccan Government updated its export subsidy program, albeit with only minor changes for citrus.
