Spanish F&V exports drop

Spain’s fresh produce exports from January to August 2023 were down by 7.7% in volume compared to the same period of the previous year, with a total of 7.6 million tons, while the value increased by 6 .5%, to €11.69 billion.

The decrease in volume was particularly marked for fruits (-11.5%), according to Fepex data. The drop in the vegetable category was smaller (-2.7%) to 3.4 million tons.

However, the value of exports rose, particularly for vegetables (+14%), while the value of fruit exports was relatively stable at (+0.7%) at 6.27 billion.

Pepper and lettuce are the most exported vegetables, followed by tomato. Pepper shipments in the period totalled 462,279 tons (-11%), while value was up by 21%. Lettuce exports were down 4% in volume to 461,723 tons (€613.6), while tomato shipments dropped by 7% to 410,113 tons (€837 million). In fruits, the most exported were citrus, followed by watermelon, melon and stone fruit.
