EU apple and pear forecasts revised downwards 

With harvesting underway this campaign, the World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) has started revising its annual Apple and Pear Crop Forecast based on the latest insights from its members on the season. WAPA estimates that the 2023 apple crop is expected to drop by around 3.5% to just below 11 million tons, due to extreme weather events such as floods, hail and warm nights. This volume is close to the 10-year average. As for pears, the crop is expected to shrink by over 13%, particularly in Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands, meaning it will be even smaller than the 2021 level. The final pear crop is estimated at around 1.72 million tons.
