Water shortage drives up fruit and vegetable prices in Spain

Prices of Spanish fresh pulses and vegetables in March this year were 27.8% higher than they were a year previously and 5.7% above the previous month’s level. As for fresh fruit, although there was slight drop (-0.1%) in prices compared to February, there was an annual increase of 5.6%.

After Spanish crops were hit by frost, hail and heavy rain in January, they are now facing drought conditions across the entire country. Farmers in Catalonia have warned that there may not be summer crops due to the lack of water.
