Rise in Peruvian grape exports
Provid, the Peruvian Table Grape Producers Association, has announced that Peru’s table grape production for 2022-23 is projected to increase by 13% compared to last season. The total is expected to amount to 73 million 8.2kg boxes. Provid data shows that Peru exported 64 million boxes in 2021-22, up 13% from 2020-21. This growth is due to maturing vines in Peru, while acreage has also risen by 2% from 20,775ha to 21,099ha.
The value of Peru’s table grape exports has increased steadily since 2012-13, when the total value was $380 billion. In 2020-21, the export value was $1.17 billion. But 2021-22 the value hit $1.37 billion. The top ten grape varieties produced in Peru are: Red Globe, Sweet Globe, Autumn Crisp, Crimson Seedless, Allison, Sugraone, Sweet Celebration, Timpson, Jacks Salute and Ivory. White seedless represents 45% of the total, red seedless 29%, Red Globe 21%, and black seedless 5%.
Top export varieties are Red Globe (25%), Sweet Globe (18%) and Allison (7%). Around 64% of the acreage is of licensed grapes and 36% is of traditional varieties.
