Impact of Turkey’s earthquakes still affecting fresh produce exports

Three weeks after the earthquakes in south-eastern Turkey, there is still a lack of availability of trucks, which have been diverted to the disaster area. The effect is an increase in logistic prices, although port congestion has eased off substantially. The port of Iskenderun, mainly used for exports to the Middle East, was damaged by the earthquakes, leading to ships being rerouted to Mersin.
The Çukurova Plain around Adana is one of Turkey’s main fruit and vegetable production areas. While crops are largely unaffected, there is a shortage of labour due to the shifting of priorities in the aftermath of the earthquake.
