Sirane Group: Paper-recyclable cushioned absorbent pads
Traditional fruit pads use a combination of plastic coatings and cellulose, which means they can only really end up in landfill after use.
However, Sirane has developed a range of paper-based absorbent pads – Earthpads – which can be recycled in the paper recycling stream.
Karl Heggarty, head of global sales, said: “Many soft fruits need absorbency to protect the fruit, which often travels significant distance before being sold.
“The absorbency improves not only the shelf-life but also presentation.
“Our Earthpads offer the same absorbency, but use only recyclable materials, and are proving popular with both growers and retailers.
Our Earthpads are available in a range of absorbencies, and in black or white. We also recently added a cushioned pad to the range – Earthpad Soft-Hold – which is available in red, white, black or brown Kraft.
Karl Heggarty added: “Cushioned pads are a great solution for delicate fruits, especially in transit, and these are now available as a recyclable pad.”
The company can also supply a range of compostable absorbent pads.
