Interpoma back with a bang
The event had been missing for four years, and didn’t the sector miss it! From November 17-19, 490 exhibitors gathered at Interpoma Bolzano, 30% of whom came from abroad, along with over 16,000 visitors from more than 70 different countries. New in 2022 was the Interpoma Variety Garden, an exhibition of 60 exclusive apple varieties, which garnered great interest from visitors. A strong point as always was the Interpoma International Congress, which over the two days of the event attracted around 800 attendees. The first part of the conference was dedicated to the latest developments in the US apple sector, where there has been a drastic drop in sales of traditional varieties (-3.6%), which until now had represented 65% of total apples sold there. This loss has not been totally offset by the increase (+21%) in sales of club varieties. There has also been a fall in sales of the Honey Crisp variety, the best performing variety on American shelves over the last fifteen years, highlighting the overall decline in apple consumption among the US public. The 13th edition of Interpoma will take place at the Fiera Bolzano in November 2024.
