On this occasion, sixteen artists -eight of them with a millennial profile- have been commissioned to dress up the European lemon through their vision of this citrus fruit and the style they represent. Madrid will kick off the gallery, which will later move on to cities such as Valencia, Alicante, Murcia and Granada.

Thus, the Spanish capital will become a showroom for the European lemon from Tuesday 20 December until 3 January. Specifically, Lemon Art Madrid will be located in the Intu Xanadú (Arroyomolinos) and Plenilunio shopping centres, so that young and old alike can enjoy themselves and take selfies with the giant lemons, which are two metres high and weigh 330 kg.

The lemons belonging to the eight millennial artists have been installed in the Intu Xanadú shopping centre, while the Plenilunio shopping centre hosts those made in collaboration with Grupo pro Arte y Cultura, an entity made up of more than 600 artists from all over the world and chaired by the Spanish-Venezuelan painter Pedro Sandoval, winner on two occasions of the Florence Biennale. These ones were already present in the streets of Madrid at Christmas 2020.

The aim of the Lemon Art Exhibition Tour is to highlight the intrinsic and differentiating characteristics of the European lemon through eight works created by renowned artists in various artistic disciplines (visual arts, design, fashion, architecture, photography, etc.) from Spain, France and Germany. Therefore, the recreations are focused on naturalness, health, quality, freshness, sustainability, leadership, versatility and lifestyle; qualities that have made this citrus fruit grown in the fields of the Region of Murcia, Andalusia and the Valencian Community a true reference for the fruit sector worldwide.

Álvaro Peña, from Murcia, and Elisa de la Torre, from Madrid, are two of the most outstanding Spanish creators at this year’s edition, while the international scene is represented by Shirin Donia (Germany) and Marine Hardeman (France). The rest of the artists are María de la Torre, Anbel (Ana Ruiz), Elvira Carrasco, Lara Padilla, Mario Villarroel ‘Villasierra’, Manuela Picó Martín, Linda de Sousa, Rosa Gallego del Peso, Mayte Spínola, Amparo Alegría Pellicer, Elisabeth Junghans and Joseph Antoine Zaragoza. Meanwhile, Juan Rafael Alonso is the sculptor who designed and created all the lemon-shaped structures.
