Poland’s Central Statistics Office (GUS) has confirmed forward estimates of berry production announced at the beginning of July. According to final data, total berry production in Poland in 2017 amounted to 500,000 tons, in line with previous predictions. This means a decline in Polish production of berries by 15% compared with last year. The fall in production can be ascribed principally to the unfavourable weather conditions in spring. The crops worst hit were the raspberry and currant with production falling by 20% from last year. Figures for 2017 show that Polish growers produced just over 100,000 tons of raspberries and 130,000 tons of currants. Meanwhile, Poland’s strawberry production was down 10% to 178,000 tons.
