Spain’s greenhouse land prices up 6% in a year

The cost of land for winter farming in Spain became more expensive in 2021 compared to a year earlier. This is the finding of the latest MAP Land Price Survey. The prices of land for agricultural uses depend on what is going to be grown and where it is located, and range between €216,085 for a hectare of greenhouse dedicated to irrigated cultivation of vegetables and €7,128 to plant herbaceous and dry fallow. This is how it appears in the latest Land Price Survey, collected by Efeagro and which, with data from 2021, has just been published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA).

Among the key points that emerge from the statistics:

1. CHANGE. The average price of a hectare for agricultural use in Spain is €10,180, up 0.5% from 2020 at current prices, but 1.3% lower at constant prices.
2. UPS. The largest percentage increases in the price of land in 2021 compared to 2020 correspond to land for greenhouse irrigated vegetables (€216,085 and +6%); subtropical rainfed fruit trees (€8,155, +5.2%); table grapes and dry-farmed raisins (€13,762, +5.2%); and irrigated table olives (€28,389, +3.9%).
3. DOWNS. The greatest percentage decreases in value are located in the irrigated land for nuts (€21,409, -5%); in those with a temperate climate with woody stone and seed fruit (€13,692, -4.5%); in rainfed olive groves for oil mill olives (€19,710, -2.7%) and in rainfed olive groves for table olives (€14,539, -2.7%).
