EU nut imports from US climb 20%

In 2021, the European Union imported US$7.1 billion worth of tree nuts from the world. The United States, with $2.5 billion, is the largest supplier, accounting for 35% of total EU imports. Although the Covid-19 health crisis and global logistical issues and delays reduced US exports of tree nuts to the EU in 2020 and 2021, the level of imports are up 20% in the first half of 2022. Greater awareness of the health benefits of tree nuts continues to increase consumer demand year-round, although the current high levels of inflation may have an impact on such high value products. Hence, manufacturers are developing creative products and packaging to attract new and traditional consumers.
