Will inflation harm demand for organics?
Despite the bullish sentiment around the growth of organics, president of Carrefour, Alexandre Bompard, is sounding the alarm, as Inforetail reports.
Speaking at a round table, where he also acknowledged that customers are increasingly turning to cheap products and promotions, he said, “This phenomenon is here, it is profound and has been gaining momentum in recent weeks. Decisions are being made in favour of lower prices. I am not going to buy organic products.” He added: “Inflation will last and its first effect is the suffering of customers whose purchasing power is more limited.”
The chief executive of Carrefour is avoiding debates about when inflation will reach its peak and focusing on the relevance of consumers’ new purchasing habits: “Inflation is here, it will last. When it is no longer her, there will be a return to normality.”
