Mali’s mango production falls
Mon 11/12/2017 by Richard Wilkinson
The production of mangoes in Mali this season was lower than last year with 64,730 tons produced, against 67,315 tons last year. Losses are expected to reach € 774,000. The losses are caused by congestion at the port of Abidjan, the blockage of the strategic city of Bouaké, and issues with customs and packaging.
Approximately 26% of Mali’s mango output was for export, with the Kent variety accounting for 75% of volumes. Only 66.3 tons were dried mangoes. Experts recommend Mali upgrade its cold rooms, extend its campaign, and improve access to credit for producers.
