Spanish distributors request delay of plastics law

Spain’s agrarian organisations Asaja, Coag and UPA and business associations Aecoc, Aces, Anged, Asedas, Fiab, Adelma, Stanpa and EsPlásticos have spoken out against the special tax on plastic containers, due to come into effect on January 2023. In a joint statement, the organisations stated that applying a new tax would only have a negative impact on the competitiveness of companies and on the consumer, calling for the measure to be delayed by at least one year.
The organisations believe the cost of phasing out plastics is too burdensome in addition to the extra energy and transportation costs distributors have to face. They also feel that more time is required to adapt to such wholesale changes.
