Australia’s table grape exports to Vietnam almost doubled in 2021-22 compared to the previous campaign, reaching A$63 million. The growth is largely due to improved trading conditions and ongoing export diversification efforts. Vietnam was Australia’s fourth largest export market for table grapes in 2020-21. Exports to Vietnam now account for 15% of total Australian table grape shipments overseas.

The 2021–22 season was the first full season in which exporters had access to the Merrifield (Victoria) irradiation facility for treatment. In previous seasons, table grapes had to be shipped to Brisbane for treatment before export to Vietnam. Consumer demand for table grapes in Vietnam is experiencing a boom. The country experienced positive GDP growth throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and its growing middle class increasingly demands high-quality fresh produce and differentiated fresh produce.
