Brazil’s orange crop rebounds

Good weather conditions during the growing season mean that the Brazilian orange crop for 2021/22 is forecast to rise by 15% from last year, with the total volume reaching 414.4 million 40.8-kg boxes (MBx) or 16.91 million tons, according to USDA data. However, production costs are up by 27% from last year and are estimated to now stand at over US$6,600/ha, due to high prices for fertiliser, ag chemicals, and diesel. Total Brazilian FCOJ 65 Brix equivalent exports for 2021/22 are forecast to be relatively stable at 1.04 million tons, an increase of 30,000 tons compared to 2020/21.
