Turkey’s cherry exporters look towards Asia

The early varieties of Turkish cherries have been harvested and the Ziraat 0900 variety’s season is now in full swing. After Europe, Asian markets have become a major focus for Turkish fruit producers, for whom to India, Malaysia and UAE have now become major markets, each with its own specific consumption habits in terms of preferred variety, packaging and size. Negotiations are currently underway aimed at gaining access to China, South Korea and Taiwan markets, too.
This season is reported to be going well in terms of quality and price, although there were significant crop decreases in some cherry production areas due to frost damage in April.
