SDG Tent at World Economic Forum 2022

Tue 07/06/2022 by Richard Wilkinson

The SDG Tent at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2022, in Davos from 22-26 May 2022, focused on ‘Mobilising action to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, resilient economy’. With only seven and a half years to go to achieve the SDGs, impactful change is imperative, and conversations about how to deliver that change are essential. This dovetails with the ethos of the Annual Meeting, with its focus on collaborative, multistakeholder impact, providing a unique environment in which to reconnect, share insights, gain fresh perspectives, and build problem-solving communities and initiatives.

The SDG Tent conversations will be led by the Partners, which include InTent, P&G, Salesforce, Royal DSM and Yara International.

André Hoffmann, co-founder of InTent & vice chairman of Roche, said, “We need to change the way we measure business success – away from financial returns only – and follow a more holistic approach. I would suggest a very simple model: the 3 Ps. We need to look after people, planet and profit at the same time.”

Loic Tassel, P&G Europe President said “Our planet is in distress, nature has been giving us signs and science has been giving us proof. For the first time, in the latest IPCC report, experts pinpoint “demand” as a crucial part of global emissions reductions. We therefore need to focus not only in finding and scaling up the technical solutions that will get us to Net Zero but also engaging the consumers in an effective way. At P&G, we are committed to accelerating our efforts through innovation and collaboration – making sustainability irresistible for the people we serve every day through our Brands. No one can do this alone. Transformational partnerships are needed across the public and private sectors to coordinate and scale action at the pace needed to make a difference. The SDG Tent offers a complementary space to connect, exchange and advance our thinking with a variety of stakeholders and industry peers to explore the role of innovation, collaboration and regulation in advancing efforts toward Net Zero. P&G is a proud partner of the SDG Tent. I am looking forward to productive discussions in May 2022 in Davos”.

Geraldine Matchett and Dimitri de Vreeze, co-CEOs of Royal DSM, said, “Only by working together we have the opportunity to change systems and transform our societies and economies for the better and create a healthy planet for future generations. Close collaboration across sectors is urgently needed to accelerate our work to reach the SDGs. The SDG Tent is instrumental to this action at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. It showcases businesses as a force for good, sharing data, knowledge, and best practices on the SDGs, so that participants understand what they need to do to deliver positive change in the UN’s ‘Decade of Action’, as well as the challenges we face. We look forward to welcoming you there and discussing the action we can take together.”

Svein Tore Holsether, president and CEO of Yara, said, “Today’s global challenges are staggering: it is not a question of whether we will have a food crisis, but how big it will be. The war in Ukraine is coming on top of a food system almost brought to its knees by Covid-19 and the climate crisis.  More than ever, we need to come together to drive solutions for humanity and push for fundamental change in the way we grow and share food to nourish 10 billion people on our finite planet. The SDG Tent is a place where we can come up with joint solutions and move forward with speed and urgency.”
